Netanyahu Vows No Palestinian State on Eve of Crucial Election
Published at(JERUSALEM) — As Israelis head to the voting booths Tuesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed that he will not allow the creation of a Palestinian state if reelected.
This promise, if he is returned to office, essentially undercuts the pledge Netanyahu made in 2009 to works towards a Palestinian state under certain conditions.
Some see Netanyahu’s remarks as a last-ditch effort to stir up his right-wing supporters with polls showing his Likud party trailing his rival Isaac Herzog’s Zionist Union party.

His backers are hoping that even if Likud loses on election day, the right-wing bloc will still keep Netanyahu in power. However, if the center-right parties defect, he will likely be out of a job.
Netanyahu claims that if the Zionist Union party wins, it will likely lead to the creation of a “Hamas-stan,” a play on words of the radical group that is intent on the destruction of Israel.
