NFL Considering Removing Disoriented Players from Game
Published at(PHOENIX, Az) — Discussed at the NFL owners meetings was a proposed rule change would grant medical officials more power over the players on the field.
If a medical advisor witnesses a player showing symptoms of disorientation or otherwise abnormal behavior, under the proposed rule, officials could stop the game and take the player to the sidelines for evaluation.
Currently the league employs medical spotters that are seated in the press box to monitor and record any injuries to players.
”We got the (medical) spotters, they’ve got a really good vantage point, they’ve got technology in their booth, they’re communicating pretty well with our trainers and doctors and we’ve got a pretty good rhythm going there,” said Rich McKay, co-chairman of the competition committee and president of the Atlanta Falcons.
Both teams would then be allowed to substitute players if an event were to occur.
