NY High School Teacher Arrested on Child Pornography Accusations

Wavebreakmedia Ltd/Thinkstock(BRONX, N.Y.) — A long-serving teacher and debate coach at the Bronx High School of Science was arrested on Friday on charges that he produced child pornography.
According to court records, Jon Cruz “induced a 15-year-old child in New Mexico to send sexually explicit images of himself to Cruz over the Internet.” Prosecutors said Cruz possessed images of child pornography in his residence.
The FBI said that Cruz would exchange gift cards purchased locally in exchange for the pornographic images.
A biography page for Cruz and multiple news articles mentioning him on the school’s website have been removed.
Cruz had been under investigation since December 2014 when prosecutors say he used an online alias and paid minor victims to send him photographs over their mobile phones. Investigators said they received a tip from police in New Mexico, who had gotten a call from a concerned parent.
