Glenn Curtis, the commanders of Marine Special Operations and the Louisiana Army National Guard, respectively, on Wednesday to express his condolences over the helicopter crash that left 11 servicemen presumably dead, according to the White House.

The UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crash happened during a routine night training exercise at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

“In those telephone conversations, the president expressed his condolences to the families, fellow service members, and communities of the seven Marines and four Army National Guardsmen from Louisiana who were involved in this tragic incident,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters.

“The president reassured the commanders of the nation’s deep appreciation for the many sacrifices that our men and women in uniform and their families make to protect and defend our country,” Earnest added. “The president also expressed confidence that there would be a detailed and thorough investigation into this incident and what caused it.”
