(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) — The St. Louis Rams are re-inventing the Fearsome Foursome.

Defensive tackle Nick Fairley has agreed to a one-year deal, worth up to $8 million.

“The defensive line here is great,” Fairley said. “I’m glad to be a part of it, glad to be coming in to a great situation with the defense, and just to add to it. So I’m here to help this team win and hopefully we’ll get to the Super Bowl.”

Before signing Fairley, St. Louis defensive line included Michael Brockers, Aaron Donald, Chris Long and Robert Quinn. The four members registered 22.5 sacks last season, though Long only played in six games due to injury. Fairley had recorded 10 pressures through a two-game span in October last year before a knee injury slowed down his season.

Fairley is expected to slide in behind Donald as part of a defensive line rotation and will likely spell Brockers on passing downs.

The Rams of the 1960’s were comprised of Lamar Lundy, Rosie Grier, Merlin Olson and Deacon Jones.  The four members were known as the “Fearsome Foursome” and both Olson and Jones are members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
