Rays Pitcher Alex Cobb Won’t Start on Opening Day
Published at(DUNEDIN, Fla.) — The Tampa Bay Rays announced on Wednesday that pitcher Alex Cobb won’t start on Opening Day after being diagnosed with tendinitis.
Cobb pitched three perfect innings against the Phillies on Tuesday, but had “a little bit” of right forearm-tightness leading up to the start.
Cobb was 10-9 with a 2.87 ERA with 149 strike outs last season. The Rays originally selected Cobb in the fourth round of the 2006 amateur draft. In four big league seasons, he has compiled a record of 35-23 along with a 3.21 ERA.
The Rays will most likely lean on Chris Archer on Opening Day.
