Manziel has been in rehab since January 28 to treat his abuse of alcohol as well as, “be a better family member, friend and teammate,” according to a statement from his attorney on Feb. 3.

An exact date for Manziel’s release was not provided.

Competing with Manziel for the starting position will be Josh McCown, whom the team signed this offseason after one season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McCown signed a three-year, $14 million contract.

The team is also exploring other options at quarterback. It was reported that the Browns offered one of their first-round picks to the Eagles after they acquired Sam Bradford from the Rams. The Browns are also potentially exploring a trade-up in the draft to select Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.
