Senate 020615 RobPortman? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1426185982068US Senate(WASHINGTON) — At least one Republican isn’t making political hay out of the latest Secret Service scandal — not yet, anyway.

Ohio Sen. Rob Portman on Thursday said not to give up on the agency’s new director, hired just a month before two senior agents allegedly crashed a car into a White House barrier while under the influence of alcohol.

“Of course I have concerns about it. I also have a lot of faith in Joe Clancy. I know him, and I believe he is the right person for the job at this time,” Portman told reporters on Capitol Hill.

“I’m looking forward to hearing from Director Clancy about this incident and I’m sure that he will take it very seriously and take action immediately,” he said.

Still, some House Republicans have wondered whether Clancy’s taking the top job was enough to change a scandal-ridden Secret Service.
