Published at(NEW YORK) — If you thought the total solar eclipse Friday morning was breathtaking, check out what it looked like from space.
Astronauts Samantha Cristoforetti and Terry Virts shared stunning photos from the International Space Station showing what it looked like as the moon covered the sun this morning.
Orbital sunrise and the #SolarEclipse…could it go any better?” Cristoforetti tweeted.

#Eclipse at “first light.” You can barely see the corner of the sun that the moon is hiding. pic.twitter.com/hdASTFWZQR

There’s definitely a piece of the sun missing! pic.twitter.com/jz0pEind9W

This is the world’s first total solar eclipse since November 2013, although not many people were able to experience it in person.
People in the Faroe Islands, which are located in the North Atlantic, halfway between Iceland and Norway, had front-row seats to the eclipse, which occurred early Friday as the new moon completely covered the sun.
A partial solar eclipse was also visible in most of Europe.
The United States will have its turn to enjoy a total solar eclipse when it passes over the country on Aug. 21, 2017.
