Richardson was released by the Colts Thursday after two disappointing season with Indianapolis.

The Colts suspended Richardson for the final game of the teams 2014 season — the AFC Title game against the New England Patriots.  Richardson stated that he was late to the team’s final walkthrough because his wife had been hospitalized with pregnancy complications and failed to notify the team.

Richardson told ESPN.com that his phone had died and by the time he was able to reach head coach Chuck Pagano, he was told not to show up as he had been deactivated for the game.

As a result of the suspension, language in Richardson’s contract — his rookie contract — allows the Colts to void the final year of his deal and the team can avoid paying him the $3.184 million he was due to earn in 2015.
