US Embassy in Djibouti to Close Thursday to Review Security Posture
Published at(DJIBOUTI) — The U.S. embassy in Djibouti will be closed to the public on Thursday as a review of its security posture is conducted, a Security Message for U.S. Citizens said Wednesday.
U.S. citizens in the country are being advised to “maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance [their] personal security.” The message says that the embassy will reopen for regular business on Sunday, March 22.
A State Department official said Wednesday that the decision to close was made “in light of ongoing threats.” The embassy regularly receives information about potential terrorist threats aimed at Western (including U.S.) and Djiboutian interests in Djibouti, the official pointed out.
