Airline Industry Rated Near All-Time High

iStock/Thinkstock(ANN ARBOR, Mich.) — As much as airline passengers gripe about the expense of flying, crowded planes and long waits, the industry is doing pretty well nonetheless.
According to the University of Michigan’s American Customer Satisfaction Index, satisfaction with the airlines is nearing a 20-year high, earning a rating of 71 out of 100 in 2015.
That’s based on a survey of 70,000 consumers’ expectations and preferences. The highest score ever was 72, which occurred in 1994, the first year of the index.
However, the industry shouldn’t pat itself on the back just yet. It’s fourth from the bottom in overall satisfaction among U.S. industries, only surpassing Internet service providers, cable and satellite companies, and health insurance.
As for individual domestic carriers, Jet Blue earned the highest score with 81, followed by Southwest (78), Alaska (75), Delta (71), American (66), Allegiant (65), United (60), Frontier (58), and Spirit (54).
