Avery Johnson Agrees to become the New Head Coach at Albabama
Published at(NEW YORK) — After a two-year hiatus, former NBA Coach of the Year Avery Johnson is getting back into coaching. Johnson has agreed to become the head coach at Alabama.
Johnson last coached in the NBA during the 2012-2013 season for the Brooklyn Nets. A sixteen-year NBA veteran, Johnson most recently served as an analyst for ESPN.
He has never coached at the collegiate level, but he won 60 games with the Dallas Mavericks twice during his time in the NBA coaching ranks.
Johnson will take over an Alabama team that started the season off well, but wound up finished 19-15 and a second-round NIT exit.
Alabama wound up firing former head coach Anthony Grant after six seasons in which he went 117-85.
In seven seasons in the NBA, Johnson went 254-186, god for a .577 wining percentage.
