The hiring platform SmartRecruiters looked at data from some 270,000 jobs in North America and concluded that if you jump on a posting immediately, it definitely improves your chances of getting hired.

SmartRecruiters says that the bulk of activity occurs at the beginning of the workweek with 18.5 percent applying for jobs on Tuesday with Monday and Wednesday tied at 18 percent apiece.

It makes sense too because Tuesday is the most popular day for employers to post jobs, followed by Wednesday and Monday. Furthermore, more hiring decisions occur on Tuesday than any other day.

The recommendation then is that once a job gets posted, don’t wait more than a day or two to apply. According to SmartRecruiters, sending out your resume on a Friday or on the weekend is a death knell for your chances as possibly more qualified candidates are already being considered, perhaps because they are viewed as more ambitious.
