ESPN: Royals Agree to Five-Year Extension with Pitchher Yordano Ventura
Published at(NEW YORK) — After just one full season in Major League Baseball, the Kansas City Royals are making starting pitcher Yordano Ventura a core member of the team.
ESPN is reporting that the Royals and Ventura are on the verge of agreeing on a five-year extension worth $23 million.
Just 23-years-old, Ventura has already became the ace of the rotation as he will take the ball on Opening Day for the defending American League Champs.
In his lone full season in the Majors, Ventura went 14-10 with a 3.20 ERA with 159 strikeouts. Ventura also performed well in the postseason, as he pitched seven scoreless innings for the Royals during Game 6 of the World Series.
Ventura’s rise to the top of the rotation also coincided with the loss of starting pitcher James Shields, who signed with the San Diego Padres during the offseason.
