The decision to remove Hernandez from the game was described as precautionary by the Mariners.

Hernandez had allowed eight hits, three earned runs and two walks while striking out one.

Despite being behind 3-0 when Hernandez left the game, the Mariners rallied and ended up winning in 10 innings 8-7 over the Athletics.

Hernandez receives a no-decision in the victory, meaning he hasn’t lost a game at the Oakland Coliseum since 2009.

The former Cy Young Award winner was brilliant in his first start of this season: he pitched seven innings against the Los Angeles Angels, allowing two hits, one earned run, and one walk while striking out 10.
