(SUNRISE, Fl.) — After trading for Jaromir Jagr in February, the Florida Panthers have decided to keep him around for another season.

Jagr and the Panthers have agreed to a one-year, $3.5 million deal, the team announced Sunday.

”He’s a great role model for our guys,” general manager Dale Tallon said. ”It’s a great day for our franchise having a superstar in the fold like that.”

Through 20 games with the Panthers, Jagr scored six goals.

Florida acquired Jagr, who ranks fifth all-time on the NHL scoring list, from the New Jersey Devils for a pair of draft picks.

”I’m glad I got traded here,” he said. ”I didn’t know how good this team is and how good the organization is. Thankful I had a chance to play the last 20 games here. A lot of people thought I was done, but those young guys give me extra energy, extra life.”
