Gary Bettman Dismisses “Katy Perry” Chants Towards Ducks Perry
Published at(NEW YORK) — As the Stanley Cup Playoffs roll on in the NHL the intensity of both the player and the fans has been ratcheted up.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman was asked if he found any issue with Anaheim Ducks winger Corey Perry having chants of “Katy Perry” directed at him by the fans.
“You’re suggesting that the crowd saying ‘Katy Perry’ to Corey Perry was sexist? Or misogynist?” he asked. “I don’t think taunting chants at players on the other side of the ice is intended to be sexist in the slightest. It’s like when you call a goaltender a sieve, they chant that. Is that now inappropriate also?”
The Anaheim Ducks swept the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the playoffs. Perry had seven points in the series, scoring three goals and adding four assists.
