Maple Leafs Fire GM David Nonis and Interim Coach Peter Horachek

Getty S 080813 NHL?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1428859908354Christian Petersen/Getty Images(TORONTO) — Coming off one their worst seasons in nearly two decades, the Toronto Maple Leafs have cleaned house by firing general manager David Nonis and interim head coach Peter Horachek.

The club also announced they’ve departed with goaltending coach Rick St. Croix and assistant coaches Steve Spott and Chris Dennis. Assistant general manager Kyle Dubas and director of player personnel Mark Hunter will share the GM duties on an interim basis.

The Maple Leafs finished hte 2014-2015 season with a record of 30-44-8. Their 68 points this past season was the team’s lowest 82-game total since the 1996-1997 season.

“It’s evident that there’s lots of changes that have to happen, and the direction has to be in a different direction,” Horachek said after Saturday’s loss to Montreal.

Nonis had been a member of the team’s front office since 2008, and was promoted to GM in January 2013.

Horachek replaced Randy Carlyle after he was fired on January 6, and went just 9-28-5 during his time as interim head coach.

The Maple Leafs have made the playoffs just once in the past 10 seasons.
