Scherzer, who will miss his next scheduled start because of the thumb injury, also hurt his wrist in the process.

His injury comes at a time when St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright tore his Achilles over the weekend after stumbling out of the batters box during an at-bat.

With injuries piling up for pitchers, Scherzer thinks a change is needed.

“If you look at it from the macro side, who’d people rather see hit: Big Papi or me?” Scherzer told CBS Sports. “Who would people rather see, a real hitter hitting home runs or a pitcher swinging a wet newspaper? Both leagues need to be on the same set of rules.

“If you look at it long-term, I think eventually there will be a DH in the National League,” Scherzer added.

It is currently unknown if Scherzer will need to miss more than one start.
