The Nationals placed every-day starters Jayson Werth, Denard Span and Antony Rendon on the DL. They are joined by reserve outfielder Nate McClouth, setup man Casey Janssen, and reliever Erik Davis.

Even though Werth is on the shelf, he may be the closest to seeing the field as he’s already playing in minor league games. He is eligible to return on April 11.

Span is likely to return to the team in mid-April as he’s dealing with an abdomen issue. He’s been able to take part in minor league games, but only for a few innings at a time.

Rendon’s situation is different as it is unknown just when the budding star will be able to get back on the field as he battles a knee issue. He sought three options on the knee, and was diagnosed with a sprained MCL.

In 2014, the Nationals led the National League with 96 wins.
