NBA Fines Raptors GM Masai Ujiri $35,000 for Outburst
Published at(NEW YORK) — Masai Ujiri’s mouth has cost him again. The NBA has fined the Toronto Raptors general manager $35,000 for his expletive over the weekend geared towards Washington Wizards forward Paul Pierce. The team was also fined $25,000.
“People want me to say something about Paul Pierce, but we don’t give a s— about it,'” Ujiri told a cheering crowd outside the Air Canada Centre.
Pierce had made disparaging comments about the franchise in an interview with ESPN.
Last season, Ujiri was fined $25,000 before the team’s playoff series against the Brooklyn Nets for addressing a crowd using an expletive as well.
“I have the deepest respect for Commissioner [Adam] Silver and the NBA, and while showing passion for our team and fans I will choose my words more carefully in the future so as not to indicate otherwise,” Ujiri said.
The Wizards defeated the Raptors in Game 1 of their opening round playoff series.
