Byfuglien drove his stick into the back of Miller’s head after the center tripped over Jets’ goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. The NHL released an explanation of their ruling and in the video explain that Byfuglien’s hit was dangerous and excessive.

The Jets lost the game to the Rangers 3-2 and have dropped three of their last five overall.

Winnipeg is currently tied with the Los Angeles Kings at 92 points for the final wild card spot, though they are in the ninth spot because of tie breakers.
