Pope Francis’ iPad Fetches $30,500 at Auction

Buda Mendes/Getty Images(MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay) — Pope Francis’ old iPad sold for $30,500 at an auction in Uruguay this week with the proceeds benefiting a high school in the country.
Castells, the Uruguayan auction house that handled the bidding, told ABC News the pontiff gave the iPad to a Uruguayan priest with the hope that he would find a way to do something good with the tablet.
The priest donated the iPad to the Francisco de Paysandu high school, which will receive the $30,500 windfall from the holiest iPad.
Castells declined to disclose who purchased the device or the nationality of the winning bidder.
Pope Francis said during a Google+ Hangout in February that he doesn’t know how to work a computer, but that hasn’t stopped the Argentinean from being a technology evangelist.
Aside from tweeting and participating in two Google+ Hangouts, Pope Francis has also proclaimed the Internet to be a “gift from God.”
Let’s just hope he remembered to disable his iCloud before handing over that iPad.
