Red Sox Beat Orioles on Patriots’ Day, 7-1
Published at(BOSTON) — The Orioles allowed five unearned runs as the Boston Red Sox (8-5) beat Baltimore (7-6) 7-1 on Patriots’ Day. The game was called after 6 1/2 innings because of rain.
With the score tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning, Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts scored the go-ahead run on a fielding error from Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen (0-1). Boston would proceed to tack on three more runs in the inning — all unearned.
Chen gave up three hits and five walks while striking out three across 4 1-3 innings of work.
Starting pitcher Justin Masterson (2-0) took the mound for Boston and allowed three hits, a walk and one earned run while striking out six in five innings.
Mookie Betts swiped his fourth base of the season in the first inning.
