Ford became a pop culture celebrity and topic of late night talk shows after admitting in 2013 that he smoked crack cocaine while mayor.

The former mayor, ended his re-election campaign last year after he was diagnosed with a malignant liposarcoma, a soft-tissue cancer. He then chose to run for a seat in the city council and won.

The museum named Ford and two other members of the council to its board.

Ford stated in an interview that he played hockey when he was younger and hopes to promote the sport to children.
