Spieth breaks the tournament’s 36-hole scoring record and ties the record held after the first two days at any major championship.

“It’s cool,” Spieth said. “Any time you can set a record here is pretty awesome. I’m very excited about today and the way I struck the ball. I struck it I thought better than yesterday. Didn’t rely on the (fortunate) breaks as much. Very pleased.”

Spieth is playing at the Masters for only the second time in his career, the other time being last year when he finished second to Bubba Watson.

Charley Hoffman is in second place at 9-under followed by a three-way tie for third between Justin Rose, Dustin Johnson, and Paul Casey at 7-under.

Tiger Woods shot a 3-under 69 Friday putting him at 2-under for the tournament.
