The report says that 997 Iraqis were killed and 2,172 were injured in March — including 729 civilian deaths and 1,785 civilian injuries. In addition, 268 members of the Iraqi Security Forces, including the Peshmerga, SWAT and militias fighting alongside the Iraqi Army were killed in March and 387 more were injured.

Those figures do not include casualties in the Anbar province.

Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq Jan Kubis said that he was “shocked to see that Iraqis continue to bear the brunt of appalling numbers of casualties caused by successive waves of violence, which are threatening with additional suffering and misery.”
