Victims of South Korean Ferry Sinking Remembered a Year Later
Published at(SEOUL, South Korea) — In South Korea Thursday, grief, sadness and anger filled a memorial site for those who lost their lives in the tragic sinking of the Sewol ferry one year ago.
It was one of South Korea’s most heartbreaking disasters: 304 people died, with nine still missing. Many of the passengers were high school students on a field trip.
South Korean President Park Geun-Hye briefly visited the site and promised to raise the remains of the ship as the victims’ families have demanded. That process could cost anywhere from $90 million to $180 million.
