There are some strange deductions that people have legitimately claimed.

“There are two camps — the odd, really odd deductions that people try to take and don’t get away with — and then in some instances, there are the odder ones that people do get away with,” said Richard Gartland, H&R Block senior tax advisor.

Most people probably can’t legitimately deduct elective plastic surgery, but one tax court approved an exotic dancer’s deduction for the cost of her breast implants for business.

Unusual medical deductions, boarding school for a child with respiratory problems and even clarinet lessons to deal with an overbite have been approved in some cases.

Of course, talk to a tax professional if you have a doubt.
