White Sox to Call Up Top Pitching Prospect Carlos Rodon
Published at(CHICAGO) — Reinforcements are coming for the Chicago White Sox. The team plans to call up top pitching prospect Carlos Rodon to the Majors on Monday.
Rodon was the third overall pick in the 2014 draft by the White Sox.
The 22-year-old Rodon had a successful yet brief minor league stint. He appeared in 11 games, making eight starts through the White Sox minor league system.
“There will still be butterflies when the debut comes, whatever day that is,” Rodon said at the end of spring training. “But it makes it a little easier I guess because I’ve faced big-league hitters before. But it counts a little more when that happens.”
He wound up going 1-0 with a 3.15 ERA. Rodon also performed well in the spring, going 2-0 with a 3.06 ERA, five walks and 21 strikeouts in 172/3 innings.
Despite the White Sox high hopes for the talented left-hander, the team will begin his Major League career with him pitching out of the bullpen at first to help ease his transition to facing Major League hitters.
