World’s Oldest Person Dies at 117

Buddhika Weerasinghe/Getty Images(TOKYO) — The Japanese woman who holds the title as the world’s oldest person has passed away just weeks after turning 117.
Misao Okawa died Wednesday from heart failure, according to the BBC, after celebrating her birthday on March 5.
Born to a clothing merchant in 1898, Okawa married in 1919 and has three children, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She spent the last years of her life at a nursing home in Osaka, where she enjoyed a healthy diet of sashimi and mackerel sushi, her favorite meal.
