Injured Coeur d’Alene police officer dies

COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene police officer shot in the line-of-duty yesterday has died.

The Coeur d’Alene Press reports Sergeant Greg Moore was was shot in the line of duty, allegedly by Jonathan Daniel Renfro, 26, of Rathdrum, early Tuesday morning in northwest Coeur d’Alene. Moore, a 16-year veteran of the police department, died at Kootenai Health at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday.

“Our community has been wounded and, in some ways, it may never be the same,” Coeur d’Alene Mayor Steve Widmyer told the newspaper. “We have lost a great man. Over time our community will heal, but we will always bear a scar and we will never forget the bravery and sacrifice of Sgt. Greg Moore.

“Our hearts go out to his family, our police department and all who knew him. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”
