Bengals Open Big Sky Tournament Thursday vs. SUU

POCATELLO — For the third straight year the Idaho State softball team can call themselves Big Sky champions and for the third straight year the Bengals will host the Big Sky Conference tournament. The tournament runs May 7-9 at Miller Ranch Stadium and it is free to the public. Fans can follow all games throughisubengals.com.

About the Tournament
Idaho State is the No. 1 seed in the double elimination tournament. Sacramento State earned the two seed while Weber State is the third seed and Southern Utah the fourth seed.  SUU has been in the championship game the last two years.

ISU vs. The Tournament Field
Idaho State leads the series with Weber State 31-19. The Bengals have won seven of the last nine meetings. ISU leads the series with Southern Utah 16-12. The Bengals have won six of the last eight meetings. The Bengals lead the series with Sacramento State 10-5. ISU has won six straight and nine of the last 10 meetings.

Galasso Walks
Since winning the espnW National Player of the Week on April 1 after the SUU series, Vicky Galasso has walked 20 times in the last 16 games. During this stretch she is still hitting .447 with four home runs and 19 RBIs in 38 at bats.

Galasso is Big Sky MVP…Again; Slagle Named Co-Newcomer of the Year
For the second time in three years Vicky Galasso is the Big Sky Conference MVP. After earning the award in 2013, teammate Hailey Breakwell won the honor last season.  Pitcher Sophie Slagle was named the Co-Newcomer of the Year. Bengals that earned first-team all-conference honors were, Galasso, Breakwell, Kacie Burnett and Ashlyn Ames. Slagle earned second-team honors while Maddy Hickman, Micheala Taylor, Ames and Sarah Hayes earned honorable mention.

Bengal Bites
Kacie Burnett has 22 mulitple hit games and Vicky Galasso has 20 multiple RBI games.
Vicky Galasso has 19 multiple hit games.
Vicky Galasso has reached base in 38 straight games while Kacie Burnett has reached base in the last 30 games.
– ISU has won the Big Sky Conference regular season championship the last three seasons.
Julie Wright boasts a  97-60 record at ISU since the start of the 2013 season. ISU is 43-12 in the Big Sky Conference.
– The Bengals are 23-3 at Miller Ranch Stadium in Big Sky Softball games.
– Idaho State is 33-5 this season when scoring four runs or more and 0-11 when scoring three runs or less.
– Idaho State is 23-5  when hitting at least one home run in a game and 9-0 when hitting two home runs or more.
– ISU is 20-1 this season when out hitting an opponent. The only loss was 4-1 at UNLV.
– Idaho State has never lost a Big Sky Conference home series. Since the 2013 season ISU has swept seven three-game series and won two of three in three series’.
– Idaho State has only lost two Big Sky Conference series.’ The Bengals lost two of three at SUU in 2013 and two of three at Northern Colorado in 2015.
– Idaho State is 23-1 when leading after four innings. ISU’s only loss was 3-1 to Louisiana Monroe.
– In Big Sky Conference play the ISU offense has 146 RBIs while only allowing 60.
– In Big Sky play ISU has scored 161 runs while giving up only 64.
– In conference play the Bengal pitching staff boats a 2.94 era while opposing pitching staffs have a 7.42 era.  ISU is also hitting .363 in conference games.
– This is the first year the ISU pitching staff has been under a 3.00 era in conference play (2.94) since the program was brought back in 2007.
