Mets Place Rafael Montero on DL
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — The New York Mets placed pitcher Rafael Montero on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Wednesday, with inflammation in his rotator cuff.
Montero, 24, was originally optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas after his start for the Mets on Tuesday, but the move was changed after finding out about the injury.
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson believes the injury is minor.
“We don’t expect this to be serious,” Alderson said. “But it’s another example of what can happen with any starting pitcher.”
Montero pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, three runs, and one walk while striking out six on Tuesday — his only start this season for the Mets.
