Favre’s comments in an interview with Sports Illustrated show that the 45-year-old is competitive as ever. “I think I could play,” Favre says. “I could make all the throws I made before, I just couldn’t throw it near as far, but that never matters anyway.”

The legendary quarterback noted that he can still throw a football about 50 yards.

Favre’s jersey number will be retired on July 18 in an induction to the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, and will be raised to the facade at Lambeau Field on Thanksgiving night, ESPN reports.

Favre spent 16 years with the Packers before playing with the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings. He retired for good — so far — after the 2010 season.
