Mark Hermann posted a video that he said he took Thursday in the parking lot of a strip mall. It shows a boy in a child-safety seat inside the truck with the engine running.

“At first, I didn’t know if I should call the police,” Hermann told ABC News affiliate WCPO-TV in Cincinnati. “I took out my camera — actually my phone — and I thought I’ll just get a picture of the license plate and then I just started taking video.”

The child said his mother was at work and his father ran into a store, Hermann told WCPO.

When a man began getting into the truck, Hermann confronted him.

“You know, if I was a bad guy, I probably could’ve just drove off with this,” Hermann said.

“I bet you would’ve got two in the back of the head,” the man responded. “He’s not out of my eyesight.”

Police in Florence, Kentucky, are investigating the incident.
