POCATELLO — The famous paw prints escorting drivers to the Idaho State University campus will be staying after all.

Idaho Central Credit Union CEO Kent Oram is leading a group of community and business leaders to raise money needed replace the iconic paw prints on the streets leading up to the Idaho State University campus. They were in danger after the Pocatello City Council recently voted not the fund the $19,000 needed to replace them after repaving.

“I just thought paws on the street were a good indicator of the college town atmosphere that Pocatello ought to have,” Oram said. “So when it looked like they would be removed or covered up I thought it would be a good time to step up and find some folks who feel the same way and raise some money to keep the paws on the street.”

Oram said the support was tremendous, even among some city council members who voted against it. They have already raised enough to replace the paws and now they are planning ahead.

“Now what we are doing is continuing with a little bit of effort to see if we can’t tuck a little bit more away for the next time this comes up,” Oram said.

ISU is paying $9,000 towards the project, Oram and his group will cover the remaining $10,000 needed.
