REXBURG – Brigham Young University-Idaho officials sent a campus-wide email to all students Monday evening alerting them of an alleged sexual assault.

A BYU-Idaho student shared the email with EastIdahoNews.com.  It says:

“The Rexburg Police Department is investigating a sexual assault on a student. The incident reportedly took place Sunday night at an off-campus location.

You are urged to be vigilant and cautious. If you must be out after dark, do not travel alone. You may contact University Security and Safety at (208) 496-3000 to request an escort from campus to your home.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Dean of Students Office at (208) 496-9200.”

Rexburg police began investigating the alleged incident on June 13.  According to police reports, officers were asked to check on a woman who expressed suicidal thoughts to an acquaintance via text message.  The victim told the acquaintance she was pregnant and the acquaintance believed the pregnancy was due to a sexual assault.  Police located the victim and she was safe.

EastIdahoNews.com has contacted the Rexburg Police Department for comment.  More information will be released when available.

The BYU-Idaho student newspaper, The Scroll, has more on the alleged incident.
