Independence Day is here and EastIdahoNews.com has everything you need to know to have a safe and happy holiday weekend.

IDAHO FALLS PARADE

The Idaho Falls 4th of July Parade begins at 9:00 a.m. Over 100 floats will participate in the parade. For more details on the parade, click here.

The Idaho Falls Police department reminds residents and visitors that traffic/parking restrictions will be in place during the 4th of July. Because of heavier traffic, drivers need to give themselves plenty of time to get to places, follow the speed limits, and obey all traffic laws. Drivers should also show courtesy to bicyclists and share the roads.

Along the parade route, please be advised of the following: All parking and traffic along the parade route, which proceeds down 4th street from Holmes and Boulevard to the end of Tautphaus Park, will be restricted. “No parking” will be implemented starting 4 a.m. on July 4th. Any vehicle parked on the parade route at 5 a.m. on July 4 will be towed at the owner’s expense. All Vehicles parked on 3rd and 4th streets (east of Holmes Avenue) and vehicles parked on John Adams (between Holmes and Tiger Ave) need to be moved off the roadway by July 3 at 2:00 pm. All vehicles parked in the School district 91 office parking lot, along with vehicles parked in the Idaho Falls High School parking lot along John Adams need to move from the area by July 3 at 2:00 pm. All motor-vehicle traffic will be detoured around the parade route starting at 8 a.m. on July 4th. The intersection at 17th Street and Boulevard will be interrupted twice on the 4th, once for the 5K run and again for the parade.

MELALEUCA FREEDOM CELEBRATION

The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration, which offers one of the nation’s best fireworks shows on Independence Day, pays tribute to the soldiers and their families who have sacrificed their lives to secure and preserve the freedoms of this great nation. Now in its 23rd year, 150 thousand people are expected to participate. Click here for a full report on the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration.

Parking for the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration in Idaho Falls will be prohibited on the grassy areas along U.S. 20 between Science Center Drive and Saturn Street before, during and after the fireworks, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Parking also will be prohibited on Riverside Drive and Vissing Street as well as along most interstate exits and entrances. Vehicles parked on the pavement or grass will be removed at the owner’s expense.

Staking out areas to occupy is highly discouraged. Stakes and string or ropes can cause damage to city and state sprinkler systems and to mowing equipment. People causing such damage will be responsible for repairs.
“Staking” does not legally reserve persons a spot for the show. Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation crews will remove stakes, string, rope, etc. prior to the fireworks.

Citizens should be advised that there is no alcohol allowed on the Greenbelt or in city parks. Fireworks – legal or illegal – are not permitted on the Greenbelt.

REXBURG INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE

The theme for the 86th Independence Day Parade in Rexburg is “Hats Off to Our Heroes.” The Grand Marshal for the parade is Glenn Dalling.

The parade begins at 10:00a.m. and runs from Smith Park to Porter Park.

FIREWORKS

Not all fireworks are legal in the state of Idaho. Police will be out looking for folks lighting illegal fireworks and we’re told citations will be issued.

Brad and Tara from Z103 recently interviewed Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Karl Casperson about what fireworks are legal and what could happen if you’re caught setting off those that are against the law.
