IDAHO FALLS — Idaho Falls Police arrested 27-year-old Charles F. N. Cortez for aggravated assault, attempt to elude an officer and malicious injury to property following an incident that occurred Saturday evening.

Cortez was also booked into the Bonneville County Jail for fictitious plates, no insurance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to an IFPD press release.

According to reports, officers responded to the 600 block of South Emerson Avenue in reference to a physical disturbance around 7:25 p.m. Cortez was beating the reporting party’s car with a 2×2.
When the first responding officer arrived, Cortez fled in a vehicle and almost struck the officer. After leaving the scene, an officer spotted Cortez and attempted to stop Cortez. Cortez drove at a high rate of speed through the streets near Emerson and Higbee before finally stopping at 11th and Boulevard where he was taken into custody.

Officials with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s office reported that Cortez remained in jail Monday on a $60,000 bond. His arraignment is scheduled for July 27.
