IDAHO FALLS — Eric Cline, a traveler from Alaska, and his Jack Russell Terrior were bit by an off-leash mixed-breed-dog today between Walgreens and Signature Party Rental on W. Broadway.

Cline, who was on his way to visit Craters of the Moon National Monument, had stopped in Idaho Falls to do laundry at D&L Laundry, when he and his three small dogs were attacked by a larger canine.

The Alaskan man said he hit and held down the dog to prevent it from hurting his dogs. The larger dog managed to get one of Cline’s dogs by the neck.

“I thought he was dead for sure,” Cline said.

An employee at a nearby Signature Party Rental contacted Idaho Police Department’s Animal Services, who arrived shortly to collect both dogs.

Animal Services Officer C. Harker said the attacking dog is being quarantined for 10 days. She said Cline’s dog was also collected, but was returned to him shortly after.

Cline’s dog received a puncture wound from the attack, but no other injuries, Harker said.

Cline received a bite on his finger, which will require stitches.

“You can usually turn dogs back, but this dog just B-lined right for my dog,” Cline said. “He knew what he wanted to do.”

Harker said both dogs are current on their rabies vaccinations and that both are in stable condition.
