More White Sturgeon coming to east Idaho
Published atGem Lake is getting a new shipment of White Sturgeon.
The White Sturgeon, the largest freshwater fish in North America, is a native to Idaho waters, but hasn’t had a large presence in our neck of the woods until recently. Idaho’s rivers prohibit the fish from migrating to this part of the state.
Idaho Fish and Game has been moving the fish up river and it is estimated that soon we will have as many as 1,000 of the new game fish in the Idaho Falls area. Gregg Losinski, with Idaho Fish and Game, said the introduction of the fish to east Idaho not only adds to the regions ecology, but is a great opportunity for anglers.
“We have some that might peak out at 5 or 6 feet long, which is still a darn big fish,” he said. “But the ones that you’ll (see at the) outfitters for the Hells Canyon stretch of the Snake River, you’re talking 10-12 foot long fish, and those fish could be close to 100 years old.
