Rexburg Man Could Face 15 Years in Prison for Attempted Strangulation

REXBURG — Christopher Kei Gordon, 25, was arrested for felony attempted strangulation on July 24, following a report of abuse by his partner, a 21-year-old female.

The victim reported a series of abusive incidents over a period of time. The most recent incident occurred July 12, when the victim claimed Gordon had strangled her, physically and verbally abused her and destroyed her property, Cpt. Randy Lewis said Wednesday. The woman provided police with photographs of her injuries, specifically choking injuries.

Gordon was arrested after the police conducted their investigation.

The victim and the perpetrator have a one-year-old child in common, that is currently residing with the mother, Lewis said.

Gordon remained in jail Wednesday with a bond of $25,000, Madison County Jail officials said. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 10.

Lewis said Gordon could face up to 15 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $50,000.

Domestic cases similar to this one are not rare in Rexburg, Lewis said.

“It’s just a continuous thing,” he said. “I don’t think a week goes by without one or two reported.”
