What fireworks are illegal & what may happen if you light them off

Fireworks stands are up and celebrations are about to get underway but many Idahoans may be surprised to learn not all fireworks are legal in Gem State.

Large, aerial fireworks are illegal to shoot off but that doesn’t shop many consumers from getting their hands on cherry bombs and bottle rockets.

Some stores and stands in East Idaho sell the illegal fireworks legally. Customers simply sign a form saying they’ll take their fireworks to another state, where it’s legal.

Brad and Tara from Z103 recently interviewed Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Karl Casperson about what fireworks are legal and what could happen if you’re caught setting off those that are against the law.

“If a person does anything to alter a firework, something other than the way they’re packaged, it’s a violation,” Casperson said. “It’s also violation to throw anything to, at, or from a moving vehicle or person.”
