Sponsor a rubber duck at 25th Annual Duck Race
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Falls Rotary Club will host its 25th annual Great Snake River Greenbelt Duck Race this weekend.
Some 19,000 rubber ducks will be dropped into the Snake River on Saturday in an effort to raise money for the Idaho Falls Greenbelt. Prior to the drop, a number of other events will take place. Idaho Falls resident Alex Henry will attempt to walk a tight rope over the river and the band Affection Collection will perform.
The Idaho Potato Commission’s famous potato truck also will be featured at the event. The truck is making its way from California and will be headed to Pennsylvania after the Duck Drop, organizer Kevin Call said.
Idaho Falls Rotary President Bruce Turner said the number one goal of the event is to engage eastern Idaho residents.
“The Greenbelt is something that is a real prize for this community,” Turner said. “People that visit here, whether they are tourists or citizens of the area, they all appreciate the fact that there has been a lot of work on Greenbelt beautification.”
Broadway Ford in Idaho Falls donated this year’s Duck Race grand prize — an 2015 Ford F-150 XLT Crew Cab — worth more than $41,000.
The Duck Race events kick off at 6 p.m. Aug. 7 and run through Aug. 8. To adopt a duck go to DuckRace.com.
