Pocatello Joins Junior Jazz Program

POCATELLO — The Pocatello City Council recently voted to join the Utah Jazz’s Junior Jazz Program for the 2015-2016 season. The Junior Jazz program is the NBA’s longest running youth basketball program.

“We have wanted to join the program for a long time”, said Brian Lowman team sports supervisor. The program was available in the area to first and second graders, but now will be available to grades three to seven. The program will serve roughly 1,000 youth in the area.

“Junior Jazz stresses the importance of good sportsmanship, teamwork, and character development. Those are exactly the type of values that we’d like to instill into our local youth in addition to teaching them the fundamentals of the game.” Lowman said in a news release.

Costs for the program will increase from $30 to $40, but will include a reversible jersey with registration. In addition to the jersey, players will also get a Jazz team picture, a participation certificate, membership identification card, and coaches will be provided with a coaching manual. Participants will also be offered a discounted ticket to a Jazz game.

“We have a quality program already, and the resources from joining the program like the jersey and coaching manual will really help,” Lowman said.
