Prize-winning dairy goats mauled to death in Blackfoot

BLACKFOOT – Five prize-winning dairy goats were mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs on a Moreland farm Sunday.

The goats were scheduled to compete at the Eastern Idaho State Fair next month.

“It was a game for these dogs,” Ashlie Parris, the goats owner, said. “They weren’t doing it for food. They did it to kill.”

Sometime early Sunday morning, Parris said at least two dogs jumped the fence and got into the corral where her goats were kept.

“They were scattered in the pen everywhere,” Parris said. “We found paw prints – a large set and there’s a smaller set too.”

The goats ranged in age from one to nine years old. They had been in featured in shows all over Idaho and Utah.

“I don’t have children of my own,” Parris said. “They are my children. They’re my life.”

The goats were worth thousands of dollars and Parris had spent countless hours working with the animals.

Parris has only one goat who was not on the property of the time of the attack. Her nephew is getting him ready for the Eastern Idaho State Fair. The goat would have competed alongside the slain goats.

“My goats weren’t just average goats,” Parris said. “I spent all of my life saving goats. All my money I get from work goes into my goats.”

Bingham County Animal Control is investigating the attack and working to track down the dogs.

Parris is worried other livestock in the area may be killed and she’s asking owners to be responsible.

“Keep track of your dogs and keep them in your yard,” Parris said.
