DRIGGS — Next week Teton Valley drivers will need to watch their speed a bit more closely.

On Monday, Aug 31. the Idaho Department of Transportation will lower the 35 mph speed limit between Ross Ave. and Harper Ave. to 30 mph and will increase the 25 mph speed limit between Harper Ave. and Wallace Ave. to 30 mph. The speed limit between Wallace Ave. and Short St. will remain 25 mph.

Along with the speed changes workers will install flashing lights to create a new 25 mph school zone near Driggs Elementary School. The lights will be programmed by the school to run according to the school calendar.

School and city officials asked the transportation department to conduct highway-engineering and safety studies along the road.

The study determined what motorists consider reasonable, convenient and safe for existing conditions. The speed limits were then set at a level that studies indicated drivers will observe voluntarily.
