Potter: Surviving minor wounds

  Published at  | Updated at

I don’t like big bulky first-aid kits when I’m hiking around and going about my daily business. That’s why mine is small and sleek and sexy. Well … small, at least. Big kits are good, though, in that they are much more comprehensive than mine, but mine is so compact that it can actually be an everyday carry thing.

And that’s my big focus right now: everyday carry — stuff I can have with me all the time so that I am as prepared as possible all the time for anything that might happen.

My desire for an everyday carry first-aid kit started a few months ago when my son cut his hand open because I stupidly gave him a really sharp pocketknife to play with:
Bloody Hand

I did not have a first aid kit, so I had to use duct tape, which was less than ideal. Now I always have my first-aid kit.

Probably someday I’ll work on a comprehensive first-aid kit (or just buy one at the store) that goes in my house or car.

But today, it’s my everyday-carry first-aid kit. And this is part one of probably a few. I cover a few things in the video above, and mention a few other things that aren’t directly part of the topic at hand (like knives) that would make good columns on their own.

So there will be more. But this is a perfect introduction to my first-aid kit.
